My first experience with TRX

Who says the romance dies once you get engaged? Kevin’s and I’s romantic Friday included attending B Meyer Training so I could experience TRX for the first time. Kevin has been attending TRX classes at B Meyer for some time, but Friday was my first chance getting over there.

TRX is a workout that utilizes your suspended body weight for a total body workout.

TRX

Kevin participated in a group class, which I watched, since it was incredibly advanced. I was exhausted just watching them. They switched quickly from cardio to upper body to lower body to core workouts.

TRX - plank

TRX - side plank

After the class was completed, the instructor Anne did a basics overview with me. Kevin and I have a TRX set for the house, so we went over different moves I could do at home.

TRX - lunges

TRX - squats

Even though we were just going over the basics, I could feel the burn from the workouts. Utilizing the TRX straps really increases the level of difficulty for basic moves, such as push-ups and plank, but since it’s based on body weight, it’s easy to modify the workouts  by standing closer or further away from the straps to increase or decrease the difficulty.

It was great to get the beginner’s tutorial on TRX, and it’s a great change of pace from a typical workout.

Have you ever tried TRX?

  1. Looking good! TRX is awesome, and so portable. Keep it up!

  2. TRX looks intense! I would love to give it a shot! How do you use the straps at home? Suspend them from the ceiling?

    • You can bolt it to a wall (we have that set up outside of the house), and there’s also a hook that you can place over a closed door. You can do all the workouts with it bolted to the wall, but some aren’t possible with the over-the-door method.

  3. My brother does all TRX workouts, and this is HIS words, because “he doesn’t like to sweat.” haha, for real? How do you NOT sweat doing that? I sweat looking at it! But he was always the skinny one in the family. Bastard.

Anyway, I didn’t realize that the entire workout was suspension. I actually hate suspension workouts. My trainer makes me do pushups with straps like that and I’m way too weak to do them with any type of good form. And then when we do stuff with our legs in them, I get caught up in the straps all the time.

  4. I have tried TRX before when I was working with a personal trainer and found it incredibly challenging! It’s definitely an excellent workout.

  5. I’ve taken one TRX class… It was tough! Have fun with the set you and Kevin have! You’re going to be in such great shape for your wedding!

  6. I haven’t tried TRX yet but have heard great things about it. Looks like fun!

  7. TRX looks intense! That sounds like my kind of strength training though. I love the suspension weight lighting machines at the gym.

Are you wearing just your socks? Or am I imagining that?

  8. Coach Anne

Jessie…you were an easy newbie! You follow instruction well! You have great body awareness and impeccable form! Loved having you…Coach Anne

  9. I remember finishing up my first TRX basics class lol. My arms were BURNING the next day, but it’s such an awesome workout.

  10. So cool! I’ve always wanted to try that

  11. Thanks for posting this!! I’ve been wondering how TRX works! It does seem difficult but I like that its so different. I’m going to inquire about it at my gym today.
