On Friday evening, Kevin and I went out for one last birthday celebration to round out his week-and-a-half of festivities. We had originally planned to go the previous week (when his birthday actually was), but we were so busy that we decided to postpone it one week to when things were a little less hectic. I’m really glad we did, and we enjoyed a great night out.
We went to Roy’s, a Hawaiian fusion restaurant. My sister actually got me a gift card for my birthday, so I used it as an excuse to go out for Kevin’s birthday.
From the beginning, the service was great. Upon opening the menus, we saw that they were customized for Kevin’s birthday.
Every table gets a bowl of edamame , and they asked us throughout if we needed any more.
For appetizers, we ordered the Slipper Lobster Tempura and Grilled Szechuan Spiced Pork Ribs.

The lobster was served with peppers and mushrooms in a curry aioli sauce. The sweet tempura batter rolled in the spicy curry were delicious together. I really enjoyed the spices. These are a great bar food.
The pork ribs were also amazing. They were smoked then glazed in Mongolian sauce. The meat fell off the bone, and the sauce was sweet and sticky. Our waitress provided hot towels for our sticky fingers after we were done with the ribs.
For our main courses, Kevin ordered Hawaiian Kai Style Braised Short Ribs, which was served with mashed potatoes.

He really enjoyed them, and they smelled delicious from my side of the table.
I ordered Jade Pesto Seared Ono, which is a sushi-grade fish served medium rare with macadamia nut pesto risotto and pork belly parmesan truffle dashi.

The fish was very good. It’s not as flavorful as ahi tuna, but the seasonings were very good. I also really enjoyed the roasted vegetables it came with and the risotto, which was light and creamy. The pork belly tasted like bacon. I received two large pieces of fish.
Since it was Kevin’s birthday celebration, Roy’s provided a complimentary Melting Hot Chocolate Soufflé.

Dessert was so warm, chocolaty and decadent. I loved it.
We had such a great time at dinner, and the great service really made the night spectacular. Our lead waitress and assistant waiter were spot on, and the manager stopped by a few times to make sure Kevin was having a great birthday. They also took a picture of us and put it in a frame that we could take home with us. They also removed the personalized page on the menu for us to take home as well. The waitress even noticed my engagement ring and congratulated us. I was really impressed by the attention to detail, and I’m so thankful they made Kevin’s birthday dinner so memorable.
If you’re looking for somewhere to celebrate a special occasion, I highly recommend Roy’s!

Oh man, complimentary edamame? That alone makes me want to try the place!
Yum! I haven’t been to Roy’s since I went to Maui a billion years ago! All the food looks and sound sooo good! I’d definitely go for that lobster tempura! Awesome that they do free birthday desserts. I had to pay for my dessert at Bonefish.
Wow! What an incredible restaurant with great service! I love that they give you complimentary edamame and they go out of their way for birthdays.
Looks like you guys had a great time celebrating his birthday. Awesome

When I lived in LA I loved Roy’s! It was such good, reliable food. Love, love, love.
